The closure of NH-48 will be managed by diverting the traffic towards the newly constructed slip roads adjacent to the carriageway towards Delhi. The Shiv Murti intersection will see traffic being redirected from the main highway to the slip roads.
Special Commissioner of Police (Traffic), SS Yadav, said that the construction work is expected to be completed within 90 days. This closure will impact a large number of commuters, as 75,000 vehicles pass through the stretch daily.
The under-construction Dwarka expressway has faced many challenges since its inception. The project was initially conceived by the Haryana government in 2006, but it got delayed due to land acquisition issues.
In 2016, the National Highway Authority of India took over the project, but it continued to face delays. The work on the Gurugram section of the expressway is expected to be completed by July 2023, while the sections in Delhi are anticipated to be completed by 2024.
According to SS Yadav, the new constructions will likely reduce the travel time for commuters heading towards Dwarka. The underpass connecting the Dwarka expressway with Nelson Mandela Marg and the underpass connecting the Dwarka link road with NH-48 will provide better connectivity and ease traffic congestion. Once the project is completed, it will be a boon for commuters, as it will provide a smooth ride and decrease travel time.
