GURGAON: Members of right-wing outfits who participated in the two panchayats that were held in Tigra village and Palwal met the deputy commissioner of Nuh on Friday and placed a list of 17 demands before him.
The memorandum, signed by members of the ‘Sarv Jatiya Hindu Mahapanchayat’, was addressed to the President.
On August 6, the outfits organised a panchayat to protest the arrest of youths who were arrested or detained in connection with the arson attack on a mosque in Sector 57. A week later, on August 13, another panchayat was held to explore the possibility of resuming the Brij Mandal Jalabhishek Yatra that ended abruptly after the July 31 communal clash.
At both these panchayats, speeches were made calling for the economic and social boycott of one community.
Members of the outfits have decided to bring out another yatra on August 28. Their other demands include invoking the National Security Act against those involved in the violence, a Rs 1crore compensation to the families of those who died in the clashes and financial aid to the owners of properties that were destroyed.
“It should either be a compensation of Rs 1 crore or a government job for the families of those who lost their youths in the violence. The families of those who suffered injuries should be given Rs 50 lakh each,” one of the members said.
They also demanded “100% compensation” for the properties of members of one community that were destroyed in the violence. Through the memorandum, they alleged that Nuh had become the hotbed of cybercrime, cattle smuggling, illegal weapons and other frauds. “Therefore, it should be merged with either Palwal or Gurgaon,” the letter said.
The panchayat members also demanded that buildings from where the rioters hurled stones, petrol bombs and fired bullets should be brought down and FIRs registered against the owners. They also said that “innocent people” being detained by police should be released at the earliest.
