GURGAON: Light showers and cool breeze led to a drop in the maximum temperature on Wednesday. According to officials from the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the city is likely to witness cloudy skies and drizzle for the next four days.
The maximum temperature on Wednesday was recorded at 28.4 degrees Celsius compared to 35.4 degrees Celsius on the previous day, while the minimum temperature was logged at 26.8 degrees Celsius compared to 28.6 degrees Celsius on Tuesday.
On Wednesday the sky remained cloudy till 3pm, following which the sun was beaming brightly. Drizzle began around 6:30am which continued for more than an hour, followed by light showers around 8am for around 20 minutes.
According to IMD data, Sohna received 4mm rainfall, while the city received 2mm rain on Wednesday. As the district did not receive heavy rain, no waterlogging and traffic congestion was reported during the day.
According to IMD, light rain is likely to be witnessed till August 26. The maximum temperature will fall to the range of 30 to 31 degrees and the minimum will be in the range of 25 and 26 degrees till August 27.
“Light rain or thundershowers are likely to occur at isolated places in the state. No large change in maximum temperatures is expected over the state during the next four days. Thunderstorms or lightning are likely at isolated places during the next five days,” an IMD official said.
According to the System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting and Research (SAFAR), “The predominant surface wind is likely to be coming from the west in Delhi-NCR at 16-20kmph, with partly cloudy sky and a possibility of very light rain or drizzle till August 26.”
On Wednesday, the city registered an air quality index (AQI) of 104, in the moderate category.
Meanwhile in Delhi, rain brought the maximum temperature down by over five degree Celsius on Wednesday, recording the lowest maximum temperature of the season at 29.4 degrees Celsius. The weather department expects rain activity in the capital to drop over the next four to five days. The maximum temperature on Thursday may hover around 33 degrees Celsius.
