Suresh Koth, state president of bhartiya kisan mazdoor union accompanied by Randhir Chahal, Kulbir Malik, Ashok Balhara and few other leaders stated that preparations are being done for “Chandigarh kooch”.
They said due to flash floods a loss of over Rs 20,000 crore has been reported in the fields and villages which should be compensated promptly by the centre.
Farmers didn’t get any concrete response from the government hence, gherao call has been given by various bodies of farmers, they said.
Talking to TOI, Suresh Koth added that farmers are being harassed in this government. The peasant community received a heavy loss following the recent floods reported in northern states.
“The water is still inundated in fields but the government didn’t pay heed toward the distress. The present government doesn’t wake up without taking out protest therefore; we will lay a siege on August 22 at union territory to warn the centre through the state government. Around 20,000 farmers from various states are expected to take part in the protest and may set up two points outside the capital. If the ML Khattar led BJP-JJP coalition government didn’t mull over our demands on that day, a pucca morcha may be erected. Moreover, minimum support price (MSP) and other issues would be raised in the protest,” he added.
