Gurugram: A 20-year-old man was killed with a hammer, and his mother was injured in an attack by the man’s cousin over a property dispute, according to police.
The victim, Rakesh Kumar, was attacked at home while he was asleep, said police officials.
Rakesh’s brother, Rajesh, reported to the police that their cousin, Ravinder, forcibly entered their house and assaulted Rakesh while he slept.
“There was an ongoing dispute within the family over a plot of land, which had previously been settled in a panchayat. However, on Wednesday, my cousin Ravinder stormed into our home and struck Rakesh with a hammer while he was asleep,” Rajesh stated in his complaint.
Rajesh added that when his mother attempted to intervene, Ravinder attacked her as well before fleeing the scene.
“We rushed them to a nearby private hospital, but the doctors declared my brother dead,” Rajesh said.
Police have formed three teams to apprehend Ravinder.
“We have handed over the body after an autopsy. The injured woman is in stable condition. The FSL team has inspected the scene and seized the hammer,” said Arjun Dev, Station House Officer (SHO) of Sadar Police Station.
