GURGAON: A resident of Sector 15 was cheated of Rs 36 lakh by a group of persons who promised to get him a job in Dubai. The victim had met one of the accused while booking a property in Gurgaon.
In March 2022, the complainant, a resident of Rail Vihar Society in Sector 15, got in touch with the accused, Ankit, who said he worked with a real estate company and was looking for a property for investment.
They became friends after a few meetings. Ankit then offered to help the complainant settle in Dubai with a job, claiming that he helped people with immigration and settling in Dubai and Amsterdam with the help of his friend Saurabh, who lives in Amsterdam.
Ankit asked the complainant to keep a security amount in his account for visa approvals and introduced him to Saurabh to gain his confidence. They informed the complainant that finding a job and obtaining a visa would take approximately six months. Saurabh visited India in November 2022, when the complainant met him at the residence of Ankit in DLF phase-3.
The complainant lost Rs 36 lakh, of which, he paid Rs 8.8 lakh in cash in April, and Rs 27.3 lakh later for visa and other things.
“After receiving the amount, they suddenly disappeared with all the money. I tried calling them, but their mobile phones were off. I even visited the rented place in DLF-3, but the place was vacant,” said the complainant, adding that he discovered many other people who were cheated on by the accused similarly.
The complainant filed a police complaint in May, and a case was registered at Civil Lines police station under sections 406 and 420 (cheating) of the IPC on Monday against Ankit Raturi, his father Dinesh Raturi, brother Sumit Raturi and Saurabh.
“A case has been registered. Further investigation is in progress,” said police spokesperson Subhash Boken on Tuesday.

According to police, the complainant alleged that on December 19, her manager and supervisors abused and harassed her and threatened to remove her from duty if she did not agree to their unreasonable demands. Police have recorded the statements. Delhi Commission for Women has issued a notice to Delhi Police and the medical superintendent of the hospital, seeking an action taken report.
